Sea Shell Snorkel

  • Coral Cove Park 19450 County Highway 707 Tequesta, FL, 33469 United States (map)

Snorkel Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

What to Expect: Participants will enjoy a guided snorkel in the crystal blue waters off the beach at Coral Cove Park. This area has limestone formations that extend from the beach underwater, creating a unique marine habitat for a variety of fish, crustaceans and mollusks. The waters just offshore are a great location for collecting sea shells, spotting reef fish and maybe even a stone crab or two.

Who Can Attend: This tour is not recommended for young children or novice snorkelers as it may include swimming up to 100 feet off the beach and diving down into waters as deep as 15 feet to collect sea shells. As there can sometimes be a strong tidal current that runs parallel to the shoreline, all participants must be strong swimmers as it may be necessary to swim against this current to return back to the meeting location. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent.

What to Bring: All participants must bring their own snorkel gear (mask and snorkel) and perforated or mesh shell collecting bags that can be used in the water. Swim fins are also recommended. Please note that swim fins are not normally allowed during Saltwater Studies snorkel events as they can become a safety issue in large groups. However, they will be beneficial for this location.

Where to Meet: Participants will meet in the parking lot in front of the bathroom/lifeguard building next to the playground at Coral Cove Park (19450 County Hwy 707, Tequesta, FL 33469).

Cost: $25 per person
