Explore. Learn. Grow.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

Saltwater Studies began with a whisper; a quiet but clear direction from God telling me to leave my career as a professional environmental scientist and marine biologist to begin a new venture. I had no idea what that venture would be but God’s word to me was clear that He was beginning a new chapter in my life. I explored other career options but no opportunities presented themselves. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months as I anxiously waited for the Lord to reveal this new direction.

While I waited, I began helping friends by teaching science classes to children in the local homeschool community. Several members of my friends and family circle encouraged me to pursue this as a new career. I hesitated. It all seemed so uncertain. I had never envisioned myself starting my own business. Yet the promptings continued. I researched the homeschool community. Interviewed parents and teachers. Sought counsel. Searched the Scriptures and prayed…a lot.

Finally, my prayer became desperately specific: “God if you want me to start my own business teaching marine science education, I need a name for a company, resources to begin a start-up, curriculum ideas and an accountant.” At the beginning of August 2011, He responded positively by giving me all four things within a week. Saltwater Studies had begun.

From its inception, the goal of Saltwater Studies has been to provide a biblical perspective of the marine environment. The Bible states that all of Creation testifies of the character of its Creator. God placed in my heart a great desire for people to learn about God and enjoy interacting with Him through His Creation while also encouraging an appropriate attitude of worship.

Explore Creation. Learn about God. Grow in faith.

Now thirteen years later, Saltwater Studies’ suite of services has expanded to include both biblically-based and secular activities but my focus still remains the same: to introduce people to Jesus Christ, the Son of God who demonstrated His love toward us through His sacrificial death for the sins of mankind.

“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
And the birds of the air, and they will tell you;
Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you;
And the fish of the sea will explain to you.
Who among all these does not know
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
In whose hand is the life of every living thing,
And the breath of all mankind?” Job 12:7-10
