Participants will be given an overview of marine species commonly seen in South Florida’s reef systems. After a brief introduction, participants will be led along an artificial reef system and snorkel tour in the crystal blue waters adjacent to Phil Foster Park in the Intracoastal Waterway. Known for its unique marine life, this snorkel is a great location to view such unusual species as the Leopard Sea Robin, Cushion Sea Star, Heart Urchin, Atlantic Long-arm Octopus, Eyed Flounder, Burrfish, Longsnout Seahorse and Longfin Squid, just to name a few.
Snorkel Skill Level: Intermediate
All ages are welcome to attend. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent. All participants must be strong swimmers. Participants must provide their own mask and snorkel as there are no rental facilities at the park. Swim fins are not allowed during the snorkel as they can become a safety issue in large groups. It is recommended that snorkelers wear water shoes instead of swim fins. Participants must bring their own water and snacks. Participants will meet next to the playground on the south side of the parking lot in Phil Foster Park (900 Blue Heron Blvd, Riviera Beach, FL 33404).
Expenses: None. There is no park entrance fee.
Saltwater Studies’ biblically-based events include a discussion on both biological information as well as how we can see the character of God in Creation. Secular events focus on biological information only.
