Snorkel Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
What to Expect: Participants will be led on a guided snorkeling adventure in the shallow water around Peanut Island. Crystal blue water, an abundance of reef fish and beautiful sea shells make this a location to remember. Peanut Island Park is an isolated island park in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway. There are restrooms, beach showers, drinking fountains and shaded picnic areas available on the island. Although the duration of the field trip is 4 hours, participants may choose to stay on the island and contact the shuttle directly to arrange a return trip to the Riviera Beach City Marina. The last return shuttle leaves at 5:00 PM.
Who Can Attend: All participants must be strong swimmers. All ages are welcome to attend. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent.
What to Bring: Participants must provide their own mask and snorkel. While masks and snorkels can be rented from the Peanut Island Shuttle, we recommend that you bring your own to ensure proper fit and comfort during the snorkel. Fins are not allowed as they become a safety issue in a large group. Water shoes are highly recommended as an alternative. Participants must bring their own water and snacks as there are no concessions available on the island.
Where to Meet: Participants will meet at Riviera Beach City Marina and catch the Peanut Island Shuttle which will transport them via boat over to the island. The shuttle leaves promptly at the scheduled time so please be on time! Riviera Beach City Marina is located at 200 E. 13th Street, Riviera Beach, FL 33404 which is just south of Blue Heron Blvd. on Federal Highway in Palm Beach County. Please allow at least one hour to drive from Fort Lauderdale to the marina.
Cost: $90 per person
Expenses: There is a fee of $18.00 per person (9 years and older) for the boat shuttle to Peanut Island. The fee for children under 9 years of age is $8.00 each. Cash or credit/debit card can be used to pay this fee for ferry transportation to and from Peanut Island.
