Join Saltwater Studies for a unique experience as we learn about wild dophin pods that can be spotted year-round in the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge. This event is offered in partnership with Treasure Seekers Shell Tours. This event is offered in association with the Florida’s Marine Animals field course for middle and high school students.
While it is well-known for its incredible shelling, the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge is also home to a pod of resident dolphins and a variety of other marine life including manatees, sea turtles and spotted eagle rays. Upon arrival, participants will be provided with an overview of wild dolphin behaviors and be instructed on how to complete a behavioral assessment. We will then head out for a four-hour tour in the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The first hour of the tour will be spent searching for wild dolphin pods and performing a behavioral assessment. Participants will then be led on a guided tour along the remote coastlines of nearby islands where they will search for seashells. Participants may keep any empty shells they find.
Meeting Location: Treasure Seekers Shell Tours, 1845 San Marco Rd #301, Marco Island, FL 34145
Age Group: Participants must be 5 years and older. Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
