Whiskey Creek Wading Tour

  • Mizell-Johnson State Park 6503 North Ocean Drive Dania Beach, FL, 33004 United States (map)

What to Expect: Participants will be led on a guided wading tour of Whiskey Creek and participate in a FDEP-permitted scientific study. Hand nets and buckets will be used to catch species such as blue crabs, juvenile fish and hermit crabs. Species will then be identified, photographically documented and measured before being returned to the waterway. Following the event, Saltwater Studies will compile recorded data into a report and submit it to the FDEP. This is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in citizen science! Please come prepared to get wet!

Who Can Attend: All ages are welcome to attend. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent.

What to Bring: Participants should wear beach attire appropriate for the South Florida sun. Water shoes are highly recommended as areas of Whiskey Creek can have algae-covered sediment. Oysters and rocks may also be present that could injure your feet. Participants must bring their own water and snacks.

Where to Meet: Participants will meet at the park concession stand called BG Whiskey Creek Hideout located in Main Parking Lot #2 in Mizell-Johnson State Park (formerly John U. Lloyd Beach State Park) in Dania Beach, Florida (6503 North Ocean Drive, Dania Beach, FL 33004).

Cost: $45 per person
