ONE-TIME EVENT
What to Expect: After a brief introduction to rocky intertidal ecosystems, students will embark on a guided tour along the fishing jetty to observe a variety of fascinating marine life in its natural habitat. The experience continues with a guided beach walk, where participants can climb on rocks to search for and catch marine creatures. We will provide nets and buckets. Please come prepared to get wet! This event will have a maximum of 12 students.
Who Can Attend: Children 4 years old and older. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent. All children attending this event must be registered students. Siblings of any age, including infants, littles or older siblings, may not accompany registered students.
What to Bring: Participants should wear beach attire appropriate for the South Florida sun and bring a filled water bottle.
Where to Meet: Participants will meet at the Jetty Pavilion in Mizell-Johnson State Park (6503 North Ocean Drive, Dania Beach, FL 33004). The Jetty Pavilion is located at the far north end of the park. Upon entering the park, drive approximately 2.5 miles and turn right into the jetty parking lot which is located directly across from Nova Southeastern University. The Jetty Pavilion is visible from the parking lot.
Cost: $45 per student
Expenses: The park entrance fee is waived for those participating in Saltwater Studies events. Upon arriving at the park, tell the park ranger at the entrance that you are attending a Saltwater Studies event.
Saltwater Studies’ biblically-based events include a discussion on both biological information as well as how we can see the character of God in Creation. Secular events include a neutral presentation that focuses on biological information only.
