BIBLICALLY-BASED EVENT
ONE-TIME EVENT
What to Expect: After a brief introduction to the diversity of the coastal hammock ecosystem, participants will be led on a tour that engages all the senses. Foraging on edible fruits and leaves, listening for animal sounds, and learning to identify plant species through sight, smell, and touch are all highlights of this trip! As students explore the coastal hammock, they will also complete a scavenger hunt activity. We will provide clipboards and scavenger hunt sheets. This event will have a maximum of 12 students.
Who Can Attend: Children 4 years old and older. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent. All children attending this event must be registered students. Siblings of any age, including infants, littles or older siblings, may not accompany registered students.
What to Bring: Participants should wear beach attire appropriate for the South Florida sun and bring a filled water bottle.
Where to Meet: Participants will meet at the Marina Pavilion in Mizell-Johnson State Park (6503 North Ocean Drive, Dania Beach, FL 33004). Upon entering the park, drive approximately 1.5 miles and turn left into the marina parking lot. The Marina Pavilion is located along the Intracoastal Waterway in the northwest corner of the marina parking lot just left (west) of the boat ramp.
Cost: $45 per student
Expenses: The park entrance fee is waived for those participating in Saltwater Studies events. Upon arriving at the park, tell the park ranger at the entrance that you are attending a Saltwater Studies event.
Saltwater Studies’ biblically-based events include a discussion on both biological information as well as how we can see the character of God in Creation. Secular events include a neutral presentation that focuses on biological information only.
