"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
This picture shows several different species of reef fish including a French Grunt (front), Sargeant Major (upper left), Stoplight Parrotfish, White Grunt, Latin Grunt and a Wrasse (all in background). More importantly, this scene displays an interesting behavior seen in reef fish. During tidal changes, when the ocean currents are the strongest, these fish will position themselves directly facing the incoming tidal current. Each fish swims strongly in order to fight against the current and remain in place. If they stop swimming they are quickly swept away. Considering the amount of energy required to fight the current, you might wonder why they do this instead of just hanging out in a protected hiding place until the currents slacken. While, yes, fighting the currents does require a lot of energy, there is also great reward. This is actually the reef fish's version of home food delivery. While the currents threaten to sweep the fish away, the flowing waters also bring morsels of food that the fish can grab and eat. This great energetic risk also can yield great rewards. This scene in Creation also displays a biblical truth. The Bible says following Jesus Christ is difficult. There are times when it is hard to be obedient to God's will. However, there are great rewards if we do not give up! In the words of Dory of Finding Nemo fame, "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!"
